Meghann Burr - 2017 Cohort

  • Professional Title: K-12 Humanities Coordinator, Enfield Public Schools.
  • Educational Background: I received a BA in Secondary English Education from Clemson University, an MA in English from Western New England University, and a 6th Year Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from Sacred Heart University.
  • Research Focus: I am interested in studying reading instruction and student engagement. More specifically, I would like to focus my research on the connection between student engagement and an instructional model that emphasizes student reading choice and student access to appropriately-leveled texts.
  • Passionate About: I am passionate about literacy instruction that meets the needs of all readers and writers, literacy across disciplines, the teaching of skills and strategies over content, and assessing students based on their mastery of those skills.

  • Educational Background: I earned a B.A. in Mathematics/Adolescent Education from Marist College, and both an M.S. in Special Education and a Sixth Year Certificate in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University.
  • Passionate About: I am passionate about urban education and ensuring all students graduate as confident, empowered citizens adaptable to change with the collaboration and leadership skills necessary to successfully navigate a rapidly changing world.

Kimberly Culkin - 2017 Cohort

  • Professional Title: Director of Human Resources, Region 14 Schools (serving the towns of Woodbury and Bethlehem).
  • Educational Background: I received my BA in Psychology from Lock Haven University and my MS and Specialist Designation in School Psychology from the University of Hartford.  Additionally, I completed the University of Bridgeport Educational Leadership Program, earned my 092 Intermediate Administration/Supervision Certification, completed the CCSU Advanced Official Certificate Program in Superintendent of Schools, and earned my 093 Superintendent Certification.

  • Passionate About: I am passionate about students and their experiences in education that promote love of learning, good citizenship, appreciation for differences among people and self-reliance.

  • Research FocusMy research focuses on Teacher Evaluation as a tool for growth and development. Specifically, I am interested in examining how school leadership behaviors impact the ways in which teachers engage with their evaluation programs.
  • Passionate About: I am passionate about student-voice appearing within the curriculum and also about maximizing our focus on Habits of Mind across all academic areas and grade-levels.

  • Educational Background: I earned my B.S. in Secondary English Education and my M.A. in Education from UConn, and my Sixth Year in Educational Administration and Leadership from Central Connecticut State University.
  • Research FocusMy research focuses on family, school, community partnerships and more recently the intersection of such partnerships with behavioral interventions, including CPS (Collaborative & Proactive Solutions).
  • Passionate About: I am passionate about literacy, restorative practices, family/school/community partnerships, opportunities for physical movement during the school day, trauma informed practices, and interventions that help kids.

  • Passionate About: I am passionate about ensuring students with disabilities are educated in the Least Restrictive Environment, are accessing the general education curriculum, and are becoming independent learners.

Christina Rivera - 2017 Cohort

  • Professional Title: I am the Program Coordinator for the University of Connecticut College Access and Preparation (UCAP) program.
  • Educational Background: I earned my Bachelors in Sociology, Criminology and Rehabilitation Services from Assumption College, and my MSW from Springfield College.
  • Research FocusMy research focuses on issues related to first generation Latinos attending a predominantly white institution, and how they navigate social and academic contexts within such an environment. My research also seeks to identify various supports for first generation Latino students that will increase their chances of graduating in common percentages with their counterparts.
  • Passionate About: I am passionate about advocating for educational equity among all students regardless of their racial background and ensuring that all students have access to a positive and supportive college experience.
